Title

Reclassification of positions in the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and COMCARE.

Body

Recommended Action: Approve the reclassificiations.

It is the staff recommendation to reclassify two positions in the staffing table to create two new positions:

Community Substance Use Disorder Project Manager - will coordinate with local law enforcement agencies, public safety system partners, community leaders, and other local programs to create a multidisciplinary approach to address substance use problems within the community.

Behavioral Health Community Collaborator - will champion collaboration with community partners to align and improve access to behavioral health services as well as to guide the growth of the community crisis center.

Both positions are a result of local public safety need. The Substance Use Disorder Project Manager will work to reduce incidents of methamphetamine abuse as well as the growing use of opioid drugs which are sweeping the country. The Behavioral Health position will work to reduce the number of mentally ill patients who are being incarcerated in the County jail and steer them toward an appropriate path of assistance. Both positions will work in tandem to reduce stress on public safety and hospital emergency room resources.

Alternatives: Do not approve the reclassification request.

Financial Considerations: $46,015 additional for change in pay and benefits; both requests will be effective August 15, 2018. NOTE: No additional funds are being requested as a result of these requests.

Legal Considerations:  This action is authorized pursuant to K.S.A. 19-212.

Policy Considerations: 4.2001 Wage & Salary.
