CONSIDERATION OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT (KDHE) IN THE AMOUNT OF $146,895 FOR SUPPORTING ACCELERATED LOCAL PUBLIC HEALTH PREPAREDNESS PLANNING AND OPERATIONAL READINESS FOR RESPONDING TO EBOLA THROUGH THE SEDGWICK COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the application of the grant; the electronic submittal of the application for the grant; and authorize the Chairman to sign all necessary documents; including the grant award agreement containing substantially the same terms and conditions as the application; and approve the establishment of budget authority as provided in the financial considerations section of this request at the time the grant documents are executed.

Grant Summary and Timeline: The threat of Ebola virus disease (EVD) is a top national public health priority. To protect the nation, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) is providing supplemental funding to KDHE to support accelerated local public health preparedness planning and operational readiness for responding to Ebola. The funding is intended to:
· Support accelerated public health preparedness planning for EVD within state, local territorial, and tribal public health systems
·Improve and assure operational readiness for EVD, Support state, local, territorial, and tribal Ebola public health response efforts
·Assure collaboration, coordination, and partnership with the jurisdictions healthcare system to assist in the development of a tiered system for EVD patient care.
If awarded, Sedgwick County will utilize this funding to replace and upgrade personal protective equipment used by our first responders such as firefighters, EMS technicians, and law enforcement officers in a potential Ebola event.
