Grant Summary and Timeline: In an effort to strengthen the existing Individual Placement Support (IPS) Supported Employment Services in Kansas, the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) applied for the Transforming Lives Through Supported Employment grant through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) . The Transforming Lives Through Supported Employment grant is a research grant using the IPS evidenced practice model. KDADS received the grant and has selected two Community Mental Health Centers to implement the expansion of Supported Employment services. In 2014, COMCARE was selected as one of two Mental Health Centers to receive this five year research grant that will fund the Enhanced Supported Employment of Kansas (ESEK).
The focus of this grant is on expanding IPS Supported Employment Services to adults suffering from a serious mental illness, including those who have a mental illness and a co-occurring substance use disorder. The goal of this grant is to strengthen the existing infrastructure needed to maintain and expand supported employment services throughout the state of Kansas and increase the number of individuals with serious mental illness and co-occurring mental and substance use disorder that obtain and retain competitive employment. There is also a local steering committee that works to identify and ameliorate barriers that individuals with mental illness face when seeking employment.
This is a one year grant that has the option to renew for four additional (4) one year periods for a total of $1,581,732 in funding over a five year period. ...
