Recommended Action: Approve the addition to the Public Works staffing table as outlined below.
This position, Inspection Foreman, will be funded out of the Sales Tax Fund and not the General Fund. We would propose this position be posted at Grade 132 - Exempt. With this position there would be a shift in seven (7) direct reports from the Lab Inspection Chief (20002166) to the new position. Pending the approval of this position, we will be following up with a request to reclassify the Lab Inspection Chief in order to account for the loss of direct reports. The new position is very heavy with on the job experience and Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) certifications, however, the position will operate almost entirely as administrative.
Alternatives: Reject the request.
Financial Considerations: The attached budget impact form outlines increased costs of $82,660 on an annual basis, including salary and associated labor taxes. Adequate funding exists to support the requested salary in 2019. This position is funded in cost center 21001-231 at 100%.
Legal Considerations: This action is authorized by K.S.A. 19-212. A simple majority vote is required.
