Hire an Emergency Management Planner above the grade minimum, with vacation leave.

Recommended Action: Approve hiring an Emergency Management Planner above grade minimum.

 

Per policy 4.2001 new hires starting salaries 10% above minimum require BoCC approval. This request is to start the candidate at a salary of mid-grade $49,693. Additionally, the candidate will start with a vacation balance of 16 hours on the first day of employment. This salary and vacation package is commensurate with the position in the organization as well as the knowledge, skills and experience the candidate with 25 years of planning and experience brings.

 

Alternatives: Do not approve the hire above minimum and offer no additional vacation leave balance.

 

Financial Considerations: This position is funded under the Homeland Security Planner grant (13012-257). Adequate budget exists to support the requested salary. No additional budget authority is being requested for 2018 or 2019.

 

Legal Considerations: This action is authorized by K.S.A. 19-212. A simple majority vote is required.
