Recommended Action: Approve the Amendment.
Emergency Communications currently contracts with SBA Towers II LLC to house radio equipment on its communication tower located at 1255 South 383rd Street West, Cheney, KS. Emergency Communications seeks to install ice shields over the radio equipment on this tower. In order to install the ice shields, an amendment to the current site agreement must be in place. The amendment includes an updated listing of Sedgwick County equipment on the tower and an increase of the monthly lease fee by $500 for the additional equipment. Additionally, it extends the lease agreement by five years.
Alternatives: Do not install ice shields to protect the equipment. This alternative would require Sedgwick County to repair or replace the equipment on the tower and would result in a degradation of our emergency radio system.
Financial Considerations: The amended lease amount will increase by $6,000 annually making the total lease amount $48,627.84 annually. No additional budget authority is being requested; Sufficient budget authority exists in the 2018 and 2019 budgets for this amendment. This amendment would extend the current renewal term, which expires in 2022, for five years, with expiration in 2027. The total amount for the remaining nine years is $437,650.56.
