Recommended Action: Approve the amendment.
Emergency Communications currently contracts with SBA Towers II LLC to house radio equipment on its communication tower located at 23101 West 23rd Street, Goddard, KS. Emergency Communications seeks to install ice shields over the radio equipment on this tower. In order to install the ice shields, an amendment to the current site agreement must be in place. The amendment includes an updated listing of Sedgwick County equipment on the tower and an increase of the monthly lease fee by $500.00 for the additional equipment.
Alternatives: Do not install ice shields to protect the public safety radio system equipment that is housed on this tower.
Financial Considerations: The amended lease amount will increase by $6,000.00 annually making the total lease amount $55,600.92 annually. No additional budget authority is being requested, sufficient budget authority exists in the 2018 and 2019 budgets for this amendment. This contract expires in 2035 and the total spend over the duration of the contract will be $945,215.64.
The equipment on this tower has already sustained damage though it is not system impacting. Failure to protect this equipment could lead to further damage that would require replacement of that equipment at an estimated cost of $37,000 each time it is damaged and in need of replacement.
Legal Considerations: This action is authorized by K.S.A. 19-101, et. seq. A simple majority is required.
