Recommended Action: Approve the Amendment and authorize the Chairman to sign.
Emergency Communications currently contracts with American Tower, L.P., to house radio equipment on its communications tower located at 6555 N. 151st Street W., Colwich, KS. Emergency Communications seeks to install ice shields over the radio equipment on this tower. In order to install the ice shields, an amendment to the current license agreement must be in place. The amendment includes an updated listing of Sedgwick County equipment on the tower and an increase of the monthly license fee by $900 for the additional equipment. Additionally, it extends the license agreement to conclude in 2028 rather than 2022.
Alternatives: Do not approve the agreement.
Financial Considerations: The amended license fee will increase by $10,800 annually, making total amount for this tower $68,400 annually. This increase would be covered by Emergency Telephone Services fees, as allowable by statute. Sufficient budget authority exists in the 2018 budget for the amended license costs.
Ice damage has already been sustained on this critical tower equipment, costing $34,210 to repair.
Legal Considerations: This action is authorized by K.S.A. 19-101, et. seq. A simple majority is required.
