Grant Summary and Timeline: The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has issued a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the 2019 Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance Program. This NOFA makes funds available for Homeless Assistance Grants which include transitional housing, supportive services for homeless persons, and permanent supportive housing. The community application will be submitted to HUD by September 14, 2018.
Two components of the community application include the Samaritan and Safety Net programs. The Samaritan program will provide eight apartments and the Safety Net program will provide eleven apartments. These programs will house chronically homeless individuals who have a mental illness and/or substance use disorder. The projects goal is to effectively address the complex needs of the chronically homeless by offering integrated treatment services to improve housing stability and increase access to mainstream resources. These apartments will be scattered-sites and will be leased from community landlords. These programs are considered permanent housing, and accordingly residents may stay in the program as long as needed to stabilize their housing situation and address their mental health and substance use disorder needs in order to maintain long term recover.
