Title

REQUEST FOR FUNDING BY PROJECT WICHITA IN THE AMOUNT OF $45,000.

Presented by: Tom Stolz, Deputy County Manager.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Take action as deemed appropriate.

Body

Background: Project Wichita is a regional community visioning initiative that is designed to gather information from people through social media, group meetings, surveys and town hall meetings to gather input for developing and implementing a ten-year "action plan" for the region encompassing Wichita and Sedgwick County. Project Wichita has formed a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation to fund and direct the endeavor.

Project Wichita currently has funding commitments of $300,000 from the private sector and nonprofit organizations.  They seek $45,000 each from Sedgwick County and the City of Wichita.  These funds will be used to support "efforts to gather public input in the visioning process." Facilitated by Wichita State University, this effort is scheduled to begin in March 2018.  The goal is to develop an action plan by August 2018.

Alternatives: Do not approve the funding request.

Financial Considerations: $45,000 one-time payment out of the Economic Development program budget in the General Fund. No additional budget authority is being requested, sufficient budget authority exists in the 2018 budget.
