Hire an Assistant County Counselor Above the Grade Minimum.

Recommended Action: Approve the request for a salary exception to hire an Assistant County Counselor above the grade minimum.

 

Per policy 4.2001, new hires with starting salaries 10% above minimum require approval from the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).  This request is to start the candidate at a salary of $85,000 beginning on March 26, 2018. The County Counselor's Office has a specific need for an attorney with litigation experience.  The candidate is an experienced attorney with over 16 years of practice in civil litigation. The proposed salary is commensurate with the knowledge, skills, and experience he brings to the position. 

 

This position (#20000246) was fully funded for FY 2018 but was vacated in January 2018.  Sufficient budgetary authority exists for this action. 

 

Alternatives:  Approve a lower rate of pay.

 

Financial Considerations:  This position is funded under cost center 63003-110.  Adequate budget exists to support the requested salary; therefore, no additional budget authority is being requested.

 

Legal Considerations:  This action is authorized by K.S.A. 19-212.  A simple majority vote is required.
