Title

Professional Service Agreement to Provide Inpatient Psychiatric Care for COMCARE Consumers.

Body

Recommended Action: Approve this agreement and authorize the Chairman to sign.

Background: This professional service agreement provides coverage for COMCARE consumers receiving inpatient treatment at local hospitals. Dr. Shah, MD, is a local psychiatrist who provides inpatient psychiatric services to COMCARE consumers hospitalized at Via Christi St. Joseph and Via Christi St. Francis. Dr. Shah provides approximately 60 hours of service per month, and has contracted with COMCARE since 2007 to provide these services.

COMCARE provides payment to Dr. Shah based on the services provided to clients admitted into the local hospitals. These fees are detailed in the attached contract. In the past year there has been an increase in clients admitted into the local hospitals, increasing Dr. Shah's services. For this reason, COMCARE has increased the not to exceed amount to $80,000.00 in order to allow for the increase in payment, should there be a need in 2018.

Alternatives: It is a generally accepted practice to ensure that inpatient psychiatric physician services are available to COMCARE patients presenting at local hospitals. Without this agreement, COMCARE would be required to identify another method to ensure patients receive these services.

Financial Considerations:

Cost: $80,000.00

Funding Source: 31072-252 CIS Inpatient Services

Term: 1/1/18 to 12/31/18

Budget authority Adjustment: Sufficient budget authority is included in the 2018 budget, no additional budget authority is being requested.

Legal Considerations: The authority for this action is K.S.A. 19-101 and a simple majority vote is required.

Policy Considerations: All Sedgwick County policies have been followed in the development of these renewal agreements.
