Title
Annual fee for membership in the South Central Kansas Economic Development District.
Body
Recommended action: Approve payment of the membership fee.
The South Central Kansas Economic Development District (SCKEDD) was formed in 1972 to promote economic development and to provide assistance to small business owners in a 14 county region. Sedgwick County is the largest of the member counties and has been a member since the District's inception. The 2017 Sedgwick County budget did not identify specific allocations to economic development organizations through the Economic Development budget. Requests are instead, brought to the County Commission for consideration each year. SCKEDD operates on a July 1 - June 30 fiscal year. If approved, Sedgwick County will pay $30,000 to SCKEDD in calendar year 2017 and $30,000 prior to June 30, 2018.
Alternatives: Do not approve payment of the membership fee.
Financial Considerations: The County paid $60,000 in the most recently completed fiscal year. Sufficient budget authority exists in the Economic Development 2017 and 2018 budgets for these payments.
