Title

AGREEMENT FOR AMBULANCE AND MEDICAL TRANSPORT SERVICES BETWEEN SEDGWICK COUNTY EMS AND VIA CHRISTI HOSPITALS WICHITA, INC., AND VIA CHRISTI HOSPITAL WICHITA ST. TERESA, INC.

Presented by: Dennis Mauk, Deputy Director of EMS.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the Agreement and authorize the Chairman to sign.

Body

The agreement designates Sedgwick County EMS as the preferred transport provider of basic ground and advanced life support services for Via Christi Hospitals Wichita, Inc., and all other owned and operated facilities with patients requiring such services. Typically, Via Christi Hospitals utilizes internal resources to transfer patients from campus to campus i.e. Via Christi St. Joseph to St. Francis, and utilizes Sedgwick County EMS when their resources are unavailable.

Due to the escalating volume of transfers from Via Christi Hospitals Wichita, Inc., coupled with the increased ambulance transport rates, the financial impact for Via Christi Hospitals Wichita, Inc. is becoming a challenge. Via Christi was exploring other options such as contracting with another transport agency to provide this service at a lower, more competitive cost. This alternative would have a negative impact on EMS revenues.

Alternatives: Do not approve the agreement and not provide medical transport services to Via Christi Hospital, Inc., and Via Christi Hospital Wichita St. Teresa, Inc.

Financial Considerations: Under this agreement, EMS is estimating an increase of 220 transports on an annual basis. These transports will generate approximately $88,000 of additional revenue each year.

Legal Considerations: The authority for this action is K.S.A. 19-101, et seq.  A simple majority vote is required.

Policy Considerations: None
