Grant Summary and Timeline: The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has issued a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance Program. This NOFA makes funds available for Homeless Assistance Grants which include transitional housing, supportive services for homeless persons, and permanent supportive housing. The community application will be submitted to HUD by September 25th, 2017.

The Division of Public Services is administering one of the programs included in this community application, which is the Shelter Plus Care (SPC) program. The Shelter Plus Care program includes the Main grant ($869,606), Bonus 1 ($35,474) and Bonus 2 ($34,447).

SPC partners with COMCARE, Miracles Inc., and Kansas University Medical Center to provide tenant-based rental assistance. The program is considered permanent housing and is designed to promote residential stability for those with severe and persistent mental illness, substance use issues, and/or HIV/AIDS related illness. The purpose of the program is to provide clients with the skills to increase their income and self-sufficiency, and has the capacity to serve up to 112 individuals/families annually. Grant funds will primarily be used to subsidize rent and utilities for eligible participants and to support one case management position. The in-kind match consists of case management services provided by partner agencies
