Body

There are presently restrictions against the usage and transfer of the roughly 650 acres that comprise the Northeast Sedgwick County Park, which is located in the area of 77^th Street North and 127^th Street East.  These restrictions are imposed by the Land and Water Conservation Fund (“LWCF”) Act.

The LWCF Act restrictions are imposed upon this property because, in 2011, Sedgwick County transferred its former park designation from the former Wiedemann Park, an RV park that adjoined the parcel containing the Kansas Coliseum at 77^th Street North and I-135, to the Northeast Sedgwick County Park.

The restrictions contained within the LWCF Act would likely require the passage of federal legislation in order to be removed.  The proposed resolution requests the passage of federal legislation to specifically lift those restrictions that apply to the Northeast Sedgwick County Park.
