Hire an Environmental Project Manager Above the Grade Minimum.

Recommended Action: Approve the recommendation for a salary exception request to hire above the grade minimum.
Per policy 4.2001, new hires with starting salaries 10% above minimum require approval from the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC). This request is to start the candidate at a salary of $48,550 beginning on September 5th, 2017. The candidate has a Master of Science in Environmental Studies and is currently an Environmental Specialist with the City of Wichita. She has experience in project management, public speaking, and is well versed in local government environmental issues. The proposed salary is commensurate with her current position with the City of Wichita, as well as the knowledge, skills, and experience she brings.
Alternatives: Approve a lower pay rate.
Financial Considerations: This position is funded under cost center 43007-208. Adequate budget exists to support the requested salary, no additional budget authority is being requested.
Legal Considerations: This action is authorized by K.S.A. 19-212. A simple majority vote is required.
