Resolution designating weight restrictions for bridges within Sedgwick County. All districts.

Recommended Action: Adopt the resolution.
The Highway Department periodically performs inspections, engineering studies, and analysis of County owned bridges. The County Engineer recommends bridge weight limits for certain bridges and requests that the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) establish weight limits for those bridges. All prior weight limit resolutions will be rescinded and the County Engineer will direct that weight limit signs be posted and maintained at each weight restricted bridge.
There are 598 bridges under County jurisdiction. Of those 67 (11%) will be posted. Restrictions will be removed from four (4) bridges that have been replaced, added to four (4) that were previously unrestricted, and lowered for eight (8) with current restrictions.
Alternatives: Take such action as the Board deems appropriate.
Financial Considerations: The cost of signage for posted bridges is already included in the approved budget, no additional budget authority is being requested.
Legal Considerations: The BOCC is authorized to perform such duties as required by law concerning roads under K.S.A. 19-212 Ninth. Under K.S.A. 8-2001, et seq. the Board has the power and authority with respect to streets and highways under its jurisdiction and within the reasonable exercise of the police power to enact and enforce resolutions regulating traffic, said resolutions relating to those subjects enumerated in K.S.A. 8-2002.
