A Resolution Appointing Jaime Oeberst, M.D., as a Deputy District Coroner.

Recommended Action: Approve the resolution.
Background: KSA 22a-226 allows the District Coroner, with approval of the County Commissioners, to appoint one or more Deputy Coroners. The Deputy Coroner shall have the same qualifications of and shall have the same duties and authority as the District Coroner. Dr. Oeberst has already executed an employment contract with Sedgwick County as a forensic pathologist. This appointment will authorize her to perform the other required duties of a Deputy Coroner for Sedgwick County.
Alternatives: Not approve appointment and have Dr. Oeberst function only as an autopsy pathologist and not be authorized to sign death certificates and/or cremation permits on behalf of the District Coroner.

Legal Considerations: The resolution and Oath of Office was prepared and approved to form by the County Counselor's Office and complies with the statutory requirements of K.S.A. 22a-226. Approval is by simple majority vote.
