Waiver of policy to hire a Worker’s Compensation Specialist with 40 hours vacation accrued.

 

Body

The Risk Management Division of the Finance Department is currently 50% staffed and wishes to move forward in filling this key position.  This applicant brings over 10 years of relevant Worker's Compensation experience working in an Emergency Room as a Patient Access Coordinator and Team Lead.  In this role the individual works closely with insurance companies, medical professionals, and worker's compenation patients, as well as serving in a Quality Assurance role. The individual also has prior budget experience and extensive experience and certifications in medical billing and coding that will prove invaluable in this position as there is direct contact with medical professionals who manage patient care. The individual also has management and supervisory experience that will benefit the Risk Management Division with strong customer service, attention to detail, and people skills. Additionally the individual has OnBase experience, which is the Divison's document handling software that facilitates worker's compensation payments in the Accounts Payable system.

 

Recommended Action: Approve the request and allow Risk Management to hire a Worker’s Compensation Specialist with 40 hours of vacation accrued. 

 

Alternatives: Do not offer additional vacation benefits and continue the search for a qualified Worker’s Compensation Specialist.

 

Financial Considerations: This request has no financial impact. No additional budget authority is necessary or requested.
