Title
A Resolution regarding Sedgwick County Board of County Commissioner meetings; day and time; provisions for special meetings.
Body
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt the resolution and authorize the Chairman to sign.
HB 2102 was signed in to law by Governor Brownback on June 2. The bill, effective July 1, modifies K.S.A. 19-206 so that boards of county commissioners may set their own meetings days and times. Prior law was not uniform to all counties. Sedgwick County passed Charter Resolution Number 4 in 1975 setting the current meeting day and time. Withe the passage of HB 2102, Sedgwick County Resolution Number 4 will be null and void on July 1, 2017.
The new language of K.S.A. 19-206 requires the Board of County Commissioners to pass a resolution setting the day and time for meetings.
Alternatives: The Commission could decide to use a different day and time for meetings.
Financial Considerations: None
Legal Considerations: K.S.A. 19-206, as amended effective July 1, requires the Commission to set a meeting day and time. A simple majority vote is required.
Policy Considerations: The resolution sets a meeting day and time. The Board of County Commissioners could chose to change the meeting day and time.
