It is recommended that the salary exception request to hire above the grade minimum be approved.
Per policy 4.2001 new hires with starting salaries 10% above minimum require approval from the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC). This request is to start the candidate at a salary of $115,000 beginning June 5, 2017. This salary package is commensurate with his position in the organization as well as the knowledge, skills, and experience he brings.
This candidate brings more than 21 years of experience in project management, staff and human resource management, quality management, cost management, as well as other qualifications that would be highly beneficial as the Director of the Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Divisions, a merged City-County operation.
Alternatives: Do not approve the hire above minimum grade for this position.
Financial Considerations: Salary expenses come from revenue generated by MABCD. As he requested salary is above the position minimum .
Legal Considerations: K.S.A. 19-212 provides authority to the Board of County Commissioners to establish personnel policies and procedures. A simple majority vote is required.
