Grant Summary and Timeline:This is an annual award that is issued to the State of Kansas and is shared among the three forensic labs in the State. This year it was determined that Sedgwick County will be allocated $25,000 to fund equipment. The equipment funded by this award is to replace aging and/or non-functional items; this will allow the forensic laboratories to maintain its current level of service.  The Grant award acceptance timeline is quite short again this year with the Notice dated February 17, 2017 on which day we received the notice via email and required to be processed, approved, signed and returned by March 3, 2017. The project performance period for the grant is January 12, 2017 to December 31, 2017.

Expected measurable outcomes:

Project Goal: The project's goal is to maintain current analytical capabilities with some enhancements in process efficiencies.

Project Objective: The primary objective is to acquire replacemensupplieses, equipment and Calibration/Certification Services to help meet the goal of enhancing process efficiencies.

Measurable Objectives: The Forensic Science Laboratory will monitor the number of forensic cases completed each month.

Indicators: Performance measures/indicators will be casework throughput and completion within the timelines specified by NAME guidelines on postmortem cases, DUI/DUID cases completed within 90 days of receipt and number of firearms cases completed.

 

Requirements from Sedgwick County: (reporting requirements or other actions required of the organization should the grant be awarded)

The County must comply with the standard grant assurances required of federal pass through grants as included in the attachment section of this Legistar Item.  Standard program progress and financial reporting are also required under this grant award.  

 

Alternatives: Do not accept the grant and forgo the benefits of the funding to improve the Forensic Labs equipment, supplies and related process improvements.
