Title

ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $505 FROM THE TREASURERS OFFICE.

Presented by:  Tavis D. Leake, Fire Chief for Sedgwick County Fire District #1.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Accept the donation and authorize the Chairman to sign a letter of appreciation.

Body

The Treasurer's Office supports a monthly fundraiser program called "Jeans for Charity."  Each month a different charity is selected and presented to the employees.  If the employee chooses to contribute, they are allowed to wear jeans for the entire week for a $5 donation. During the month of February, the Treasurer’s Office selected the Fire District #1’s Clown Education Program to be their recipient.  The Clown Program is an interactive program where school children learn fire safety lessons from fire fighters dressed as clowns.  Approximately 1,488 children were reached in 2015 and 1,621 were reached in 2016.  The donation will allow the program to purchase supplies that will help to sustain the program.

Financial Considerations: The total amount of the donation, $505.00, will be deposited into cost center 14001-241. If approved, budget authority should be authorized, and any budget authority remaining at the end of 2017 should be authorized for establishment in 2018 and in future years.

Policy Considerations: The Board of County Commissioners as the governing body of Sedgwick County Fire District #1 has the authority to accept donations on behalf of the Fire District.

Outside Attendees: Linda Kizzire, County Treasurer.
