Recommended Action: Establish Budget Authority in the Prosecuting Attorney Training Fund.
The Prosecuting Attorney Training Fund is the primary funding source to provide training opportunities for staff in the District Attorney’s Office. Funding is obtained through assessment of court costs ($2 per case), pursuant to K.S.A. 28-170a, and provides necessary funding to meet mandatory attorney training needs.
Budget authority for this fund (18002-216) was estimated during the normal 2017 budget process, but unencumbered cash was underestimated by $8,963.68. The District Attorney’s Office has requested the need for additional budget authority to meet training expenditures anticipated in 2017 and to increase budget authority by $8,963.68, essentially balancing the budget to equal the amount of unencumbered cash remaining at the end of 2016.
