Grant Summary and Timeline:
The Division of Health has managed the WIC Program in Sedgwick County (SC WIC) for the past 42 years. WIC is a federal program administered by the Food and Nutrition Service of the United States Department of Agriculture that provides healthcare and nutrition focused services to:
A) Women who are pregnant, post-partum, or currently breastfeeding; and
B) Infants/children under the age of five.
WIC services include: nutrition education, immunization screenings, lactation support, referrals to community, supplemental nutritious foods.
To qualify for SC WIC services, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
1) Household income must be at or below 185% of the U.S. Poverty Income Guidelines (currently $44,955/year for a family of four); and
2) Found to have at least one medical or nutritional risk factor; risk factors include, but are not limited to: overweight, dental problems,
anemia, low birth weight, and/or prematurity; and
3) Live or work within Sedgwick County.
The Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2017 grant award in the amount of $2,152,005.00 for the Division of Health represents an increase of $213,005 (or 9.9%) compared to the previous FFY 2016 grant award of $1,939,000. This funding allocation includes additional funding to offset...
