Title

Consideration of a Kansas Department of Corrections - Division of Juvenile Services (KDOC-JS) SFY17 Contract, which continues services contained in the Juvenile Justice Strategic Plan.

Body

Recommended Action: Approve the contract and authorize the Chairman to sign the contract.

Sedgwick County began receiving funding for local juvenile justice programming in 1998.  In order to continue to receive grant funds, Sedgwick County submitted an annual funding application in June (BOCC approval on June 13, 2016).  Similar to prior years, funds distribution is likely to be mid-July based upon processing times for the Department of Administration and availability of funds for State agencies.  The KDOC-JS contract is from July 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016.  The following contract will provide for:

State grant-funded services during SFY17:

                     - Kansas Legal Services, Detention Advocacy Service - $83,664

The Sedgwick County Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board (Team Justice) approval requirement was waived by the KDOC-JS.

Alternatives: If not approved, Sedgwick County will not receive this funding from KDOC-JS.

Financial Considerations: Sufficient budget authority is available in 33003-253 / 330036-17.

Legal Considerations: The authority for this action is K.S.A. 19-101, et seq. A simple majority vote is required.

Policy Considerations: None.
