The Fire District and local bargaining unit have been involved in negotiations for several months concerning the bargaining agreement for 2016-2017. They have also participated in a fact-finding hearing. The parties remain at impasse and require a hearing before the Governing Body of Fire District #1 to offer recommendations and explain their respective positions.

Financial Considerations:
The Memorandum of Agreement will determine the compensation structure and other conditions of employment for the bargaining unit members. It will also have a significant effect on budgetary requirements for the District.
Legal Considerations:
If the parties remain at impasse after negotiations and fact-finding, K.S.A. 75-4332 (f) requires the governing body or a duly authorized committee to conduct a hearing for the parties to explain their respective positions. Thereafter, the governing body will later take such action as it deems to be in the public interest, including the interest of the public employees involved.
