In 1962 the United States Congress first passed Public Law 87-726 designating May 15 of each year as “Peace Officers Memorial Day,” honoring Federal, State and local officers who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty, and the corresponding week as “Police Week.” The 2016 recognition is May 15 - 21, 2016.
