Title

Changes to the Courthouse Police Department Staffing Table.

Body

Recommended Action: Approve the change to the staffing table.

Reclassify the Property Lease and Contract Specialist, grade 130 to Courthouse Police Officer, grade 120. To accommodate citizens who come to the County Courthouse lawfully carrying personal protection firearms, we will be providing a locked gun cabinet for the secure storage of that firearm while the citizens are inside the Courthouse.  To ensure manpower to adequately rotate the security positions allowing for monitoring and transitioning of firearms safely and securely n and out of the locked cabinet, one additional full time (1.0 FTE) dedicated commissioned Courthouse Police Officer is required.

Alternatives: Forego the addition of one Courthouse Police Officer and not be able to provide a secure gun locker for our citizens' use in the main courthouse.

Financial Considerations:

2016 Budget Impact:  $(17,366) - savings from the reclass

2017 Budget Impact:  $(23,281) - savings from the reclass

Legal Considerations:  Violence in the Workplace policy would need to be updated to reflect citizens' ability to lock their personal guns upon entering the lobby of the courthouse.
