Title

PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE PROPOSED ADOPTION OF THE INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE, 2012 EDITION.

Presented by: Thomas Stolz, Director, Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department (MABCD).

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Open the public hearing, close the public hearing, and defer action on the proposed resolution until a future meeting.

Body

A public hearing is required to adopt a new commercial building code within the Wichita-Sedgwick County Unified Building and Trade Code (UBTC) to replace the existing commercial code within the UBTC.  In this case, the 2012 International Building Code, published by the International Code Council, with various amendments, additions, and omissions that are included within the UBTC and the resolution, is what is proposed to be adopted.

Alternatives: If the public hearing is not held, the new commercial code cannot be adopted.

Financial Considerations:  None

Legal Considerations:  Consistent with K.S.A. 12-3303, notice of this public hearing for code adoption by reference was published.  In order for this code to be adopted by reference, a public hearing is required to occur.

Policy Considerations:  N/A

Outside Attendees:  None

Of course not so what a waste of time. Secondly why do I need to tie down a storage shed under 400 sq ft? If it blows over its my problem not yours. Thirdly why can't the building permit exemption be increased? 200 sq ft is too small. Government should give us some more breathing room on our own property. +2
