Recommended Action: Approve the recommendation to offer vacation above policy.
Per policy 4.700 new hires accrue vacation at a rate of 3.69 hours a pay period, or 96 hours a year, until they have been with the County five years. This request is to start the applicant for the principal accountant position, Mandy Estes, at the six to ten year rate. That rate is 4.61 hours a pay period, or 120 hours a year. Ms. Estes was the most qualified for the position, having 12 years of accounting experience, including 7 years of governmental accounting experience.
A request to hire Ms. Estes at 10% above the minimum salary has also been initiated through the salary exception process.
Alternatives: Do not approve and offer no additional vacation.
