The South Central Kansas Economic Development District (SCKEDD) was formed in 1972 to promote economic development and to provide assistance to small business owners in the area. The organization is comprised of members from 14 counties located in south central Kansas. Sedgwick County has been a member of SCKEDD since its inception. The 2016 Sedgwick County budget did not include funding for SCKEDD, but instead included $310,000 in the Economic Development program to be used by economic development organizations upon approval of the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).

Financial Considerations: Annual membership fees are $0.17 per citizen based on the 2010 census. Sedgwick County's fee is $84,722.
