Body

Each year Thompson Reuters, a major publisher of books and software about governmental services, announces its Public Service Champion awards to public servants who have performed exceptional service in the field of tax administration.  Awards may be made in any of five categories: Jurisdiction of the Year, Officer Holder of the Year, Excellence in Business Process Transformation, Excellence in Office Leadership, and Excellence in Constituent Service.  On October 2, Thompson Reuters announced that Brent Shelton, Sedgwick County's tax system coordinator, had been awarded the 2015 Public Service Champion award in the Excellence in Office Leadership category.

Brent is one of eight individuals throughout the country to receive a Public Champion Award in 2015. Other recipients include the Treasurer of Beaufort County SC, the deputy director of San Francisco's Treasury & Tax Collection Office, the assessor of Hamilton County IN, the Assessor / Tax Collector of Wasco County OR, the recording / licensing supervisor of the Pierce County WA Auditor's Office, and the CIO and Land & Minerals Division director of Minnesota's Department of Natural Resources.  Brent's award announcement noted his skill in coordinating the efforts of the five seperate agencies -- three of which are overseen by elected officials -- that share responsibility for administration of the county property tax system.

Brent was nominated for the 2015 award by Karen Bailey, the deputy county clerk.
