Recommended Action: Approve the recommendation to offer salary above policy and with 10 days of vacation.
Background: Per policy 4.2001, new hires starting salaries 14% above minimum require BoCC approval. This request is to start Mr. Yost at a salary of $132,000 which is commiserate with the knowledge and experience he will bring to the position. The second piece of this request is to start him with 10 days of vacation available for use on his first day of employment, after which he will accrue vacation at a rate based on his years of service as outlined in policy 4.700. This is not an uncommon practice in high level or difficult to fill positions.
Alternatives: Do not approve the hire above minimum and offer no additional vacation balance.
Financial Considerations: The 2015 and 2016 adopted budgets for the County Counselor's Office each include sufficient budget authority to accommodate the proposed salary.
