RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the application for the grant and authorize the Sedgwick County Department of Corrections to submit the grant agreement to the Kansas Department of Corrections. If awarded authorize acceptance of the grant and establishment of budget authority as provided in the Financial Considerations section of this Request.

Grant Summary and Timeline: The Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) announced the Juvenile Detention Facility Fund (JDFF) awards to eleven juvenile detention facilities operating in the State of Kansas, according to the percentage of licensed capacity at each facility. Kansas law requires that the JDFF be spent only on the following categories: construction, renovation/remodeling, operational costs, equipment/supplies. The SFY16 award is $13,998 more than the SFY15 award due to a reduced detention center capacity in the State of Kansas.

Budget Authority Adjustment: Additional budget authority of $100,000 is requested for 2015. Fund center 33037-253 will be used for the 2016 JDFF award.

Expected measurable outcomes: Funds will be used for food and kitchen operational costs at the Juvenile Detention Facility to provide meals in compliance with KSDE.
Alternatives: If a budget plan and narrative is not submitted to KDOC by July 24th, Sedgwick County will not receive these funds.

Legal considerations: The authority for this action is K.S.A. 19-101. Pursuant to the County's grant policies and procedures, approval of the Board of County Commissioners is required for this grant agreement. A simple majority is required.
