Title
Renewal of contracts with the City of Bentley, City of Clearwater, and Mount Hope Community Development to provide ride coordination service for the Sedgwick County Department on Aging Transportation Program's Volunteer Transportation Program.

Body
Recommended Action: Approve the three contracts and authorize the Chairman to sign.

Background: A one-year grant application to Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) that included funding for a volunteer transportation program was approved by the County Commission on August 13, 2014. Funding was awarded by KDOT to the Sedgwick County Department on Aging Transportation Program. Transportation services will be provided by RSVP Volunteer Program volunteers in their private vehicles and they are insured through the RSVP Volunteer Program. The RSVP Volunteer Program is geared toward the development of a network of skilled volunteers, age 55 and older, that provides a wide range of services in the community. The first contracts for this volunteer transportation program were initiated by the County in 2005.

Term of contracts: July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016.

This contract funds a coordinated volunteer transportation service from the three cities (Bentley, Clearwater and Mount Hope). The types of trips this rural population uses includes transportation for: employment, medical appointments, human service agency visits, pharmacies, banks, law firms, tax preparation agencies, hospital, senior centers and nursing home visitations. The Department on Aging is designated to administer federal, state and local funds allocated to provide programs and services to older adults. Our mission is to assist seniors, caregivers and individuals with disabilities to achieve improved health and greater independence. Utilizing volunteers to provide transportation service helps meet a need in smaller communities.

Alternatives: The County Commission could elect not to approve the contracts.
