Recommended Action: Approve the agreement and authorize the Chairman to sign.
 
Background: COMCARE has been asked by the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) to assist them in a double-blind  trial of Adjunctive Valacyclovir to improve Cognition in Early Phase Schizophrenia- VISTA. KUMC has requested to contract with COMCARE to provide referrals of potential participants to the clinical trial. COMCARE staff will spend time reviewing patient files of potential trial participants. COMCARE will provide potential clients with information regarding the trial including an information sheet and contact information.
 
The agreement between KUMC outlines COMCARE's responsibilities and compensation for providing referrals to KUMC. COMCARE will spend staff time reviewing patient charts to search for appropriate participants for the trial.
 
KUMC will provide payment to COMCARE in the amount of $26.97 an hour for up to five hours a week that staff spends reviewing charts and providing clinical trial information clients.  
 
Alternatives:  If this agreement is not signed KUMC will have to reach out to other agencies that could provide referrals and COMCARE will not receive any revenue from providing these services.
 
Financial Considerations:  
Revenue: KUMC will pay COMCARE $26.97 per service hour delivered up to 5 hours per week.
Funding Source: 310276-15
Term: 05/01/15 - 04/30/16
Legal Considerations: The authority for this action is K.S.A. 19-101 and a simple majority vote is required.
Policy Considerations: All Sedgwick County policies have been followed in the development of this renewal agreement.
