Title
APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION AMENDING AND AUTHORIZING SEDGWICK COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS, COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS ADULT INTENSIVE SUPERVISION PROGRAM, TO INCREASE FEES FOR SERVICES.
Presented by: Mark Masterson, Director, Department of Corrections.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:  Adopt the Resolution and authorize the Chairman to sign.

Body
The fee structure currently used by the Department of Corrections was last revised in 2010.  Due to increased agency costs, the cost for supervision to community corrections clients will need to be realigned in order to balance expenditures and revenues.  The amended resolution increases the supervision fee to $500 for the first 12 months of probation supervision.  An additional $300 supervision fee shall be due on the 13th month and an additional $100 shall be due on the 25th month, the 37th month, and each year through the end of the probation period.

Alternatives: The current resolution will remain effective if the amendment is not adopted.

Financial Considerations: The average probation term is 18 months.  AISP has approximately 1,200 new client admits each year.  We estimate 50% of new clients (600) will pay the $500 supervision fee during the first year of probation.  The net increase between the current fee structure (600 clients x $200) and the new fee structure (600 clients x $500) is $180,000.

Legal Considerations: The authority for this action is K.S.A. 19-101a. A simple majority vote is required.
