Title
LAND PURCHASE FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES POST 15.
Presented by: Scott Hadley, Director, EMS.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the contract and authorize the Chairman to sign.

Body
This land purchase will allow for construction of a new post near the intersection of 35th St. N. and Webb Rd., as approved in the 2015 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). This location has been evaluated for response time and access routes and has been found to be ideal. Multiple locations were considered for the location of this post and were rejected due to main artery traffic access or cost. The cost of the land is $3.75/SF, which is comparable for undeveloped property in the area. The purchase is for 47,916 SF for a total price of $179,685.00. This amount is within the land budget for the project.

The northeast region of Wichita and Sedgwick County has experienced significant growth over the past few years. Recent projections indicate that the development and growth of this area will continue expanding with residential housing, businesses, and medical services such as doctors' offices, out-patient clinics, assisted living facilities, and skilled nursing facilities. Furthermore, the crews and EMS post in that area (21st and Woodlawn) was relocated in 2012 to meet ongoing demand in the Wesley Hospital area. Additionally, the crews and ambulance that were located at 1010 North 143rd Street East were relocated to Lincoln and Webb Rd. in 2014 to meet the increasing demand in the Greenwich Heights area. In order to meet locally agreed upon and nationally accepted response time targets and to address critical public safety needs to the expanding northeast corridor of Sedgwick County, a staffed facility in that area is needed.

Alternatives: The BOCC could choose not to approve the contract, in which case another method for purchasing the land would need to be found.

Financial Considerations: Budgeted amount for land is $180,000.00, this contract is for $179,685.00 and will be...
