Recommended Action: Establish 2015 budget authority in the amount of $13,157.32 in the Asset Forfeiture Fund (Federal), 18024-259.
The Asset Forfeiture Fund (Federal) is establish by law under an equitable sharing agreement with federal law enforcment agencies such as FBI, DEA and ATF. A portion of the proceeds derived as a result of property seized and forfeited via this agreement is allocated to the prosecutor's office and may be used for legitimate law enforcement and prosecutorial purposes, including for training, equipment and educational purposes.
Statutorily, it is not allowable to anticipate future revenue. As a result, budget authority was not established for this fund (18024-259) during the regular 2015 budget process. The District Attorney's Office is requesting budget authority to meet current and pending expenditure needs anticipated throughout the remainder of the year.
