The 2013 Adopted Budget document was prepared by Finance staff. In late 2012, the document was submitted to the Government Finance Officers Association for consideration, and after peer review and comparison of the County's budget document to established criteria, Sedgwick County received the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
The GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA's recommended practices on budgeting and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
This is the 30th year Sedgwick County has earned the award, indicating a long history of consistent excellence in budget documentation by this government. The County's success in earning the Award for the 2013 Budget document is a result of the efforts of David Miller, Peter Giroux, Jill Tinsley, Lindsay Poe Rousseau, Anne Bradley, and Brandon McGuire. Current Budget staff members include Kamme Carlsten, Kyle Carr, Brandon McGuire, Lindsay Poe Rousseau, and Lorien Showalter. Emily Graf in the County Manager's Office also acts as a department budget analyst.
The 2014 Adopted Budget Document was submitted to GFOA in November 2013. Results for the 2014 budget have not been announced.
