Title

RESOLUTION ADOPTING NEW FEMA FLOOD INSURANCE RATE MAPS FOR SEDGWICK COUNTY.

Presented by: Kelly Dixon, Floodplain Technician, Department of Code Enforcement.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the resolution.

Body

This resolution amends the current Floodplain Management Resolution, by adopting the new Federal Emergency Management Agencies Flood Insurance Rate Maps that will become effective May 2, 2012. This adoption is in compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program and is required to maintain Flood Insurance availability in Sedgwick County.

Alternatives: The BoCC could choose to not adopt the new Floodplain Maps, which in turn would threaten the availability of flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program to the homeowners within Sedgwick County.

Financial Considerations:The updating of the Floodplain Management Resolution has no financial impact on Sedgwick County. The impact to the community of passing the updated resolution will be the continued availability of flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program.

Legal Considerations: The attached Resolution adopting the new FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps for Sedgwick County has been prepared by the Office of the County Counselor and has been submitted to and approved by the Chief Engineer of the Division of Water Resources for the State of Kansas as required by K.S.A. 12-766. Approval is by simple majority vote.
