Recommended Action: Approve the recommendation to hire Zoo Deputy Director above the pay range midpoint. Salary - $91,767.85

 

The Sedgwick County Zoological Society, Inc. - Board of Trustees, Executive Committee - instructed Mark C. Reed, Zoo Director to search for a new Deputy Director with the retirement of James Marlett, Deputy Director effective March 23, 2012. The candidate was to be qualified as a Deputy Director and a viable candidate for the Zoo Director position upon incumbents retirement. A national search was completed and the final two candidates were interviewed on site with representatives present from the Sedgwick County Zoological Society, Inc. Board of Trustees, Executive Committee

 

This salary will be paid based upon the approved financial agreement between the Sedgwick County Zoological Society, Inc. and Sedgwick County Board of County Commissioners.

 

Alternatives:Commission could choose to not approve this request.

 

Financial Considerations: The salary range for this position is $67,844 minimum, 83,471 midpoint, $99,097 maximum. The requested starting salary of $91,767.85 falls between the midpoint and maxiumum of the pay range. The annualized salary with benefits will be $110,424.

Policy Considerations: Policy 4.2001 states:

The hiring wage rate is normally at the minimum of the positions salary range. A hiring wage rate up to ten (10) percent of the minimum may be paid with the County Managers approval. Hiring wage rates more than ten (10) percent of the range minimum will require approval from the Sedgwick County Board of Commissioners.
