Title

AMENDMENT TO CONTRACT WITH DCCCA INC. FOR SHORT-TERM RESPITE CARE AND PROFESSIONAL RESOURCE FAMILY CARE.

Presented by: Marilyn Cook, Executive Director, COMCARE.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the amendment, authorize the Chairman to sign, and authorize the necessary budget authority.

Body

Background: DCCCA, Inc. provides short-term respite and professional resource family care services for youth with a serious emotional disturbance (SED) who are referred by COMCARE. The contract outlines the service definitions, program goals, and expectations as required by Medicaid regulations to qualify as reimbursable services. The proposed amendment raises their contract cap from $50,000.00 to $100,000.00 as the agency has been providing more services to youth in the community than originally anticipated.

Payment to DCCCA is funded through Medicaid revenue and is only made after a review of service transactions and documentation ensures compliance with all regulations.  Services may only be provided with authorization from COMCARE through the youth’s treatment plan and must target one of the treatment goals as outlined in the plan. No county mill levy funds support this contract.

Alternatives: The services DCCCA provides help reduce the risk that youth with SED will need psychiatric hospitalizations or placement into an even more restrictive setting due to their mental illness or behavior. Without their support, youth with SED might not have immediate access to the services needed to keep them functioning successfully in the community.

Financial Considerations:

Cost: $100,000.00 ($50,000.00 additional)

Term: 1/1/11- 12/31/11

Funding Source: 310646-12 Medicaid Revenue

Legal Considerations: The authority for this action is K.S.A. 19-101.  A simple majority vote is required.

Policy Considerations: All Sedgwick County policies have been followed.
