Title
Amend the Capital Improvement Program to add Remodel Third floor Lobby, Main Courthouse.
Body
Recommended Action: Approve the amendment to the Capital Improvement Program.
Staff have requested a CIP amendment to improve the functionality of the third floor. The proposed project would open and reconfigure the current southeast corner of the County Manager's Office and install a workstation there that would be open to the lobby. It will accommodate up to two employees who will be able welcome and direct citizens, visitors and staff.
Staff indicate the third floor lobby often has citizens and visitors who are unsure where they need to be and who they need to see. By providing a highly visible and prominent reception area near the elevator lobby with staff working there, this feature will be an obvious and welcoming location and offer timely assistance. This assistance will also help preclude the interruptions that often occur in the offices on this floor.
Existing administrative staff will serve as receptionist for the County Manager and County Counselor and have the ability to control access to County Manager's office, conference room, and County Counselor's Office. Appointments, requests to speak or meet with someone in either office would be coordinated with and controlled by the receptionist. This will allow staff to remain in their offices with no open public access and help avoid interruptions.
Alternatives: The current office configuration could be retained.
Financial Considerations: Cost of the project is now estimated at $79,908. The proposed fund source is a transfer from the 2009 Outdoor Warning and Report Back system upgrade which installed selective warning capability, replaced a total 27 devices that were least reliable and provided the ability to monitor the operational status of individual devices. The project is very close to completion. Fund Center: 13987-234
