Recommended Action: Approve the addendum and authorize the Chairman to sign addendum exercising two months of the month-to-month term and providing notice of lease termination effective April 30, 2013.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office has occupied space at 604 N. Main since March 2008. The Sheriff's Office is in the process of reorganizing several staff members to the new Squad Room on Stillwell leaving space for staff on the 3rd Floor of the Main Courthouse. With this reorganization of staff placement, 3 staff members will be able to move out of this lease space. This will leave the Sheriff's Office Professional Standards Unit with 4 staff members the need for less space and a lower cost lease beginning May 1, 2013. The owner has agreed to this month-to-month option. A new lease with the Sheriff's Office beginning May 1, 2013, at 604 N. Main, Suite E (ECCO Plaza) is currently in the process of being finalized.
Alternatives: The BoCC could choose to not approve the month-to-month lease option, in which case the Sheriff's Office would need to relocate staff at the 604 N. Main, Suite F location by February 28, 2013.
Financial Considerations: The lease rate is being increased by $46.21 for the two months from $2,684.91 to $2,731.12, for a total additional cost of $92.42.
Legal Considerations: The authority for this action is K.S.A. 19-101, et seq. A simple majority vote is required.
