Title
Salary adjustment for Community Health Nurse II (CHN II) for Danielle Jaso-Grimm in the Immunization Program at the Health Department.
Body
Recommended Action: Approve the adjusted salary for Danielle Jaso-Grimm, CHN II, based on verification of 0-1 years of Nursing experience at the RN level.
Background: On January 4, 2006, the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) approved a market adjustment matrix for the Community Health Nurse II (CHN II) position. This process allows the pay level of a newly hired nurse to be adjusted upward, starting at 6.71% above the minimum salary with compensation for years of nursing experience.
The Preventive Health Division offered the CHN II position #20002632 to Danielle Jaso-Grimm on 3/16/09. Danielle was a LPN at time of hire and has just completed her RN degree. She now qualifies for the market adjustment matrix for a nurse with 0-1 years of experience.
Analysis:
The 2011 minimum salary for a CHN II - Band B322 position is $38,042 with no market adjustment. Based on a market adjustment in salary, the salary for a CHN II - Band B322 position with 1 year experience is $40,593, a 6.71% difference. If approved Danielle’s adjusted salary and benefits for the remainder of 2011 would be $3,566 compared to $3,145, if she were hired at the minimum.
Alternatives:
Revert to the previous practice of hiring Community Health Nurse II (CHN II)’s at the minimum salary of Band B322. This process makes it difficult to hire and retain qualified nurses.
