Title

Agreement with Pratt Community College for nursing students to observe clinical practice in a non-hospital setting at the Sedgwick County Health Department.

Body

Recommended Action:  Approve the Agreement and authorize the Chair to sign the Agreement and any related documents.

Background:  The Health Department provides a clinical rotation site for students of various health professions (nursing, medical technology, social work, etc.) from local colleges and universities.  This partnership provides each student the opportunity to observe clients and nurses, as well as to learn applicable procedures in a clinical setting.  We strive to provide the optimal learning experience for the students.

Analysis:   By entering into this new partnership with the Pratt Community College Nursing Department, we are encouraging an interest in public health and providing a source of future healthcare professionals for the Health Department and the community.  This new partnership agreement with Pratt Community College will be effective for the period beginning February 1, 2012 and will remain in effect unless cancelled by either party upon at least thirty days written notice.

Alternatives:  To not enter into this partnership.

Financial Considerations:  Pratt Community College requires each student to maintain professional liability insurance for patient-care-related practicums.  This agreement involves no cost to Sedgwick County.

Legal Considerations: Authority to enter into the Agreement is granted by K.S.A. 19-101. Approval is by simple majority vote.
