Amendment to the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to Relocate Fire Station 34 (Haysville).

Recommended Action: Approve the Amendment to the Capital Improvement Program.
The original construction portion ($1,669,248) of the budget for Fire Station 34 - Haysville was based on data averaged from the previous 4 completed stations which was $138/SF plus inflation for one year. In August 2012, Fire Station 36 was bid out and the cost came in at $168/SF. Based on the new bid information, the construction cost of Station 34 was expected to rise to $1,935,360.00 if the SF cost remained the same. At that time the decision was made not to amend the CIP prior to bidding but to proceed with the project and modify the CIP based on what the actual bids were.
On March 5th bids were opened for Station 34 and the lowest bid was from Snodgrass and Sons, Inc. in the amount of $1,833,600.00. Based on this bid, a CIP amendment in the amount of $180,787.20 is needed to award construction. This is calculated from the increased amount of the bid over budget ($164,352.00) and additional funds to restore the construction contingency to 10% ($16,435.20).
Funding for the amendment is available in 14971-234, Fire Station 36 - Derby CIP cost center. These funds are available and will not be needed for Station 36 as they were budgeted for purchasing land which didn't happen due to a land transfer agreement.
Alternatives: Not approve funding and project would not proceed.
Financial Considerations: Funds needed to cover the project is an estimated $180,787.20. The proposed fund source is a transfer of budget authority from the 2012 Relocate Fire Station 36 - Derby.
